How do I play?

Asked with: Compile: Main 1bg-406652-en-1e

Setup
1. Arrange all protocol cards on a table to form the draft.[1]
2. The youngest player drafts 1 protocol from the group and puts it in front of them.[1]
3. The second player drafts 2 protocols from the remaining protocols and moves both to their front.[1]
4. The first player drafts 2 protocols from the remaining protocols and puts them next to their first drafted protocol.[1]
5. The second player drafts 1 protocol from the remaining protocols.[1]
6. Return any remaining protocols to the box.[1]
7. Each player takes the 6 command cards for each of their protocols and shuffles them together to form an 18 card deck.[1]
8. Each player places their protocols, 'Loading…' side up, in the center of the field from left to right in the order they were drafted, forming three lines.[1]
9. Each player places their shuffled deck to the side of the field, designating a space for their trash.[1]
10. Each player draws a starting hand of 5 cards.[1]
11. The player that drafted first plays first.[1]
12. The control component starts in a neutral position (though new players may choose to ignore the control component rules).[1]
Turn Order
1. Start: Your turn begins and you perform 'Start' effects on your side of the field.[2]
2. Check Control: If you have a higher total value than your opponent in at least 2 lines, you gain the control component.[2]
3. Check Compile: If you meet the conditions for compiling, you must compile; this is your only action for the turn.[2]
* To compile, if you have 10 or greater value in a line AND the value is greater than your opponent's in the same line, you delete all cards in that line on both sides (sending them to trash) and flip your protocol card to the 'Compiled' side.[3]
* You may only compile one line each turn.[3]
* If you recompile a line that is already compiled, you delete the cards as described, but instead of flipping the protocol, you draw the top card of your opponent's deck and become its owner.[3]
4. Action: Either play 1 card or refresh your hand.[2]
* Play: Play one card from hand into a line on your side of the field, either face-up or face-down.[2]
* Face-up cards must be played into the line with the matching protocol and resolve any active effects (the middle box of text).[2] Passive text (top and bottom boxes) is only active when the card is face-up.[2]
* Face-down cards can be played into any line.[2]
* Cards played into lines that already contain cards "cover" the existing card; the uncovered card is the only one that can be manipulated unless otherwise noted.[4]
* Refresh: Draw cards from the top of your deck until you have 5 cards in hand.[2] You cannot refresh if you have 5 or more cards in hand.[2] If your deck is empty, shuffle your trash to reform your deck and draw the remaining cards.[2][4]
* If you have no cards to play, you MUST refresh your hand.[2]
5. Check Cache: If you have more than 5 cards in hand, you must discard down to 5 cards.[2]
6. End: Your turn ends and you perform 'End' effects on your side of the field.[2]
Special Mechanics
* Control Component: When a player compiles or refreshes while holding the control component, the component returns to neutral, and the player may first rearrange one player's protocols (changing position but not side).[3]
* Winning: The first player to flip all 3 of their protocol cards to the 'Compiled' side wins.[3]

what this block IS: the PASSAGE SEARCH's own results — the same search that fills this page's closest-passages list — and NOT the passages the answerer read. Answering runs its OWN retrieval: a far wider candidate pool, re-ranked down to a final handful, plus floors this search never applies — the base rulebook, surviving errata corrections, and one slot per book on a multi-book read. Each of those armed only if THIS ask sent what it needs: the boost block names the ids it forwarded, and the scope line names the books it read. A document the answer CITES that no row here names is therefore EXPECTED, not a defect: two searches, two candidate pools, two orders. The answerer's own final rows are shown in their own block below, beside these and never mixed into them.

score = the fused retrieval score (reciprocal-rank fusion over the search arms) — NOT a cosine similarity. This ruling ran the THREE-ARM fuse (full-text + vector + the doc-priority boost arm, which carried the base rulebook and/or the errata corrections this query matched), whose arithmetic ceiling is 0.04918 — all three arms ranking the same chunk #1 (ceiling = arms/(k+1) at k=60). The measured healthy band 0.016–0.033 was measured on TWO-arm asks and does not bound this one: its high end is the two-arm ceiling, and a third arm has room above it. A chunk only one arm ranked highly lands near 0.016 (that one arm's #1 vote), so 0.03 here is an excellent hit, not a 3% match.

per-arm ranks (the rank each search arm gave a chunk): NOT DISCLOSED by the gateway. Fusion happens gateway-side and only the FUSED score crosses the wire, so rulesage cannot show them without a gateway change. The rank column below is the FUSED rank (position in the returned list), which is real.

token count per chunk: NOT DISCLOSED — chunk token counts are not reported on the ask path. The character counts below are of the bounded snippet/quote rulesage actually received — a real measurement of what we hold, never an estimate of the chunk.

what this block IS: the passages the ANSWERING read put in front of the answerer, in the order it read them — the other half of the two reads described above, and the one that decides what the answer could possibly say. Each row names the book it came from and where in that book it sits, what it scored when the search arms were fused, which arm carried it there, and whether the re-ranker chose it or a floor guaranteed it a slot. A row here that no passage-search row names is EXPECTED: a far wider pool, re-ranked, with floors the passage search never applies.

candidate pool: the answering read scored 5 passages, out of a ceiling of 80 set gateway-side. Both figures are reported by the gateway for THIS ask — measurements of what actually happened, not constants read out of anyone's source and printed here on faith.

floors armed for this ask: the base rulebook — armed · surviving errata corrections — not armed · one slot per book on a multi-book read — not armed. Every floor is stated on every ask, armed or not, so a floor that did not apply here is never mistaken for one this app does not know about.

arms fused for this ask: vector + full-text + the doc-priority boost arm. Stated separately from the rows because an arm that ran and carried nothing is a different fact from an arm that never ran.

watchdog
first-token watchdog: 30s per arming window (rulesage.table.first-token-watchdog-seconds), re-armed once by the passages frame — so the worst case before a reader falls back to polling is 60s. Whether it actually fired is a BROWSER-side decision that never reaches the server, so it is not recorded here. The stream path above is the server's half of that story: whether a delta was emitted at all.
num_ctx · think posture
both are the CHILD's settings, not rulesage's, and no ask reply carries them — an answer never states which context window or think posture produced it. The live-seat line above reads them from the running child instead, where the gateway can answer for itself; it describes the child NOW, not this ask.

this game registers NO errata cards (edition 455), so "no registered errata card matched" above could never have matched one

Errata scope: the gate above matched this ruling's own edition only. When an ask also reads an expansion, that expansion's own registered errata cards stay outside the match — a stated phase-1 limitation, not a failed lookup.
