How do I play?

Asked with: Marvel Dice Masters: Avengers vs. X-Menbg-148575-en-1e

To play the game, follow these procedures:
Setup (Draft Teams Variant)
1. Place all dice, sorted by type, in the center of the table.[1]
2. Place all available character and action cards in the center, stacking cards with the same name together.[1]
3. Determine the first and second players.[1]
4. The second player picks first, choosing one card stack; if the stack has more than one card, the player chooses which one to use.[1]
5. The second player takes all dice for that character and decides how many to use (up to the max listed and the chosen team limit).[1]
6. The first player then chooses.[1]
7. Players alternate until all cards have been chosen.[1]
8. Each player reveals the two Basic Action cards they want on the battlefield.[1]
9. Assign colors to each revealed Basic Action card, place them in the center of the table, and place the three matching dice on each.[1]
10. Both players reveal their personal cards and place their matching dice on them.[1]
11. Choose a first player and start fighting.[1]
Turn Order
During a player's turn, they complete the following steps in order:
1. Clear and Draw Step: Move all dice still in your reserve pool to your used pile.[2] Draw 4 dice from your bag (if the bag has fewer than 4, refill it from the used pile, shake, and continue drawing until you have 4).[2] Place all drawn dice into your prep area.[2] If you are still unable to draw 4 dice after refilling, take 1 damage and gain 1 generic energy for each die below four that you drew.[2]
2. Roll and Reroll Step: Roll the four dice drawn as well as all dice already in your prep area from previous turns.[2] You may choose to reroll any or all dice as a single group; you do not get a second reroll opportunity.[2] Once finished, place all rolled dice into your reserve pool.[2] If you roll a face with burst symbols, you must apply the matching text on the card.[2]
3. Main Step: During this step, you may purchase dice, activate global abilities, field characters, and use action dice in any order and multiple times.[2]
4. Attack Step: (Note: The sequence for the attack step is described via the results of the turn) Assign characters to attack or block.[3]
Assigning Damage
1. Both players assign damage simultaneously (though the attacker assigns first in rare relevant cases).[4]
2. Each attacking character that was blocked assigns its attack value to the character(s) blocking it; if there are multiple blockers, the attacker chooses how to divide the damage.[4]
3. Each blocking character assigns damage equal to its attack value to the character it blocks (split damage if blocking multiple attackers).[4]
4. If two or more characters block a single character, add their attack values together.[4]
5. Damage dealt to a character in excess of its defense is wasted.[4]
6. Once damage is assigned, knock out any character that took damage greater than or equal to its defense, moving it to that player's prep area.[4]
7. If game effects are generated by a character being knocked out or taking damage, the attacking player resolves all effects first, then the defender.[4]
8. Unblocked attacking characters (or those with certain abilities) deal damage to the defending player, reducing their life.[4]
Cleanup
1. Characters that blocked or were blocked but were not knocked out return to the field.[3]
2. Place unblocked attacking characters in the player's used pile.[3]
3. All damage to all dice is cleared.[3]
4. Any actions still in a player's reserve pool are moved to the used pile.[3]
5. All card effects end (except "while active" effects).[3]
6. The turn ends.[3]
Winning the Game
The game ends and you win as soon as your opponent's life reaches zero.[5][3]

what this block IS: the PASSAGE SEARCH's own results — the same search that fills this page's closest-passages list — and NOT the passages the answerer read. Answering runs its OWN retrieval: a far wider candidate pool, re-ranked down to a final handful, plus floors this search never applies — the base rulebook, surviving errata corrections, and one slot per book on a multi-book read. Each of those armed only if THIS ask sent what it needs: the boost block names the ids it forwarded, and the scope line names the books it read. A document the answer CITES that no row here names is therefore EXPECTED, not a defect: two searches, two candidate pools, two orders. The answerer's own final rows are shown in their own block below, beside these and never mixed into them.

score = the fused retrieval score (reciprocal-rank fusion over the search arms) — NOT a cosine similarity. This ruling ran the THREE-ARM fuse (full-text + vector + the doc-priority boost arm, which carried the base rulebook and/or the errata corrections this query matched), whose arithmetic ceiling is 0.04918 — all three arms ranking the same chunk #1 (ceiling = arms/(k+1) at k=60). The measured healthy band 0.016–0.033 was measured on TWO-arm asks and does not bound this one: its high end is the two-arm ceiling, and a third arm has room above it. A chunk only one arm ranked highly lands near 0.016 (that one arm's #1 vote), so 0.03 here is an excellent hit, not a 3% match.

per-arm ranks (the rank each search arm gave a chunk): NOT DISCLOSED by the gateway. Fusion happens gateway-side and only the FUSED score crosses the wire, so rulesage cannot show them without a gateway change. The rank column below is the FUSED rank (position in the returned list), which is real.

token count per chunk: NOT DISCLOSED — chunk token counts are not reported on the ask path. The character counts below are of the bounded snippet/quote rulesage actually received — a real measurement of what we hold, never an estimate of the chunk.

what this block IS: the passages the ANSWERING read put in front of the answerer, in the order it read them — the other half of the two reads described above, and the one that decides what the answer could possibly say. Each row names the book it came from and where in that book it sits, what it scored when the search arms were fused, which arm carried it there, and whether the re-ranker chose it or a floor guaranteed it a slot. A row here that no passage-search row names is EXPECTED: a far wider pool, re-ranked, with floors the passage search never applies.

candidate pool: the answering read scored 33 passages, out of a ceiling of 80 set gateway-side. Both figures are reported by the gateway for THIS ask — measurements of what actually happened, not constants read out of anyone's source and printed here on faith.

floors armed for this ask: the base rulebook — armed · surviving errata corrections — not armed · one slot per book on a multi-book read — not armed. Every floor is stated on every ask, armed or not, so a floor that did not apply here is never mistaken for one this app does not know about.

arms fused for this ask: vector + full-text + the doc-priority boost arm. Stated separately from the rows because an arm that ran and carried nothing is a different fact from an arm that never ran.

first-token watchdog: 30s per arming window (rulesage.table.first-token-watchdog-seconds), re-armed once by the passages frame — so the worst case before a reader falls back to polling is 60s. Whether it actually fired is a BROWSER-side decision that never reaches the server, so it is not recorded here. The stream path above is the server's half of that story: whether a delta was emitted at all.

both are the CHILD's settings, not rulesage's, and no ask reply carries them — an answer never states which context window or think posture produced it. this game registers NO errata cards (edition 958), so "no registered errata card matched" above could never have matched one

Errata scope: the gate above matched this ruling's own edition only. When an ask also reads an expansion, that expansion's own registered errata cards stay outside the match — a stated phase-1 limitation, not a failed lookup.
