How do I play?

Asked with: Riverboatbg-227515-en-1e

To play the game, follow these steps:
Setup
1. Place the two game boards in the center of the playing area.[1]
2. Sort Riverboats by capacities and effects, setting each pile face up alongside the matching boat art above the 'New Orleans' board, and move the top tile of each pile onto the game board.[1]
3. Shuffle 1-hex, 2-hex, and 3-hex Crop tiles into separate, face-down piles.[1]
4. Fill the 'Scoring and Crop Supply' board with face-up Crop tiles drawn from the appropriate piles.[1]
5. Place the five Phase tiles near the game boards.[1]
6. Place one Worker on each of the four spaces of the Round track.[1]
7. Shuffle Cultivation cards and place them face down near the game/boards.[1]
8. Shuffle Opportunity cards and place them face down next to the 'New Orleans' board, then draw four Opportunity cards and place them face up on the four designated card spaces on the game board.[1]
9. Place Barns, Wells, Surveyors, and Coins near the game boards as a general supply.[1]
10. Each player takes a random player mat and places it in front of them.[2]
11. Place a Harbor Master token on the appropriate space on your mat's Harbor track.[2]
12. Take 13 Workers, 2 Surveyors, and 3 Coins and place them in a personal supply near your mat.[2]
13. Randomly determine a player to go first and hand them the First Player marker.[2]
The Rounds
1. The game lasts four rounds.[3]
2. At the start of a round, set up the game board by placing face-up Crop tiles on empty spaces of the 'Scoring and Crop Supply' board, ensuring there is a Riverboat tile of each type on the 'New Orleans' board, and placing a face-up Opportunity card on each of the four card spaces on the 'New Orleans' board.[4]
3. The player with the First Player marker chooses one Phase tile to receive a bonus and go first during that Phase; players continue selecting tiles in clockwise order until all tiles are selected.[4]
4. Resolve each of the five Phases of the Round (Cultivation, Planting, Harvesting, Shipping, and Opportunity Scoring) one by one.[3]
5. During each Phase, play proceeds clockwise around the table, beginning with the player who selected the corresponding Phase tile.[4]
6. At the end of Rounds 1, 2, and 3, return Phase tiles and pass the First Player marker to the player to the left (in a three-player game, pass it to the player farthest behind on the Victory Point track).[3]
7. The game ends at the end of Round 4.[3]
Scoring
1. After completing Round 4, award Victory Points for the following:
* 1 VP for each remaining Coin.[5]
* 7 VP for each color of Field spaces on a player mat completely covered with Crop hexes and/or Barns.[5]
* 2 VP for each unscored Estate Feature (Barn, Well, or Surveyor).[5]
* Harbor Scoring: The player whose Harbor Master traveled farthest on their Harbor track receives full value for each Riverboat tile passed or arrived at (value equals capacity); all other players receive half value (rounded up).[5]
* Agents Bonus Scoring: 1st place receives 20 VP, 2nd place receives 10 VP, and 3rd place receives 5 VP (you must have at least 1 Agent in New Orleans to score).[5]
2. The winner is the player with the most Victory Points.[5]

what this block IS: the PASSAGE SEARCH's own results — the same search that fills this page's closest-passages list — and NOT the passages the answerer read. Answering runs its OWN retrieval: a far wider candidate pool, re-ranked down to a final handful, plus floors this search never applies — the base rulebook, surviving errata corrections, and one slot per book on a multi-book read. Each of those armed only if THIS ask sent what it needs: the boost block names the ids it forwarded, and the scope line names the books it read. A document the answer CITES that no row here names is therefore EXPECTED, not a defect: two searches, two candidate pools, two orders. The answerer's own final rows are shown in their own block below, beside these and never mixed into them.

score = the fused retrieval score (reciprocal-rank fusion over the search arms) — NOT a cosine similarity. This ruling ran the THREE-ARM fuse (full-text + vector + the doc-priority boost arm, which carried the base rulebook and/or the errata corrections this query matched), whose arithmetic ceiling is 0.04918 — all three arms ranking the same chunk #1 (ceiling = arms/(k+1) at k=60). The measured healthy band 0.016–0.033 was measured on TWO-arm asks and does not bound this one: its high end is the two-arm ceiling, and a third arm has room above it. A chunk only one arm ranked highly lands near 0.016 (that one arm's #1 vote), so 0.03 here is an excellent hit, not a 3% match.

per-arm ranks (the rank each search arm gave a chunk): NOT DISCLOSED by the gateway. Fusion happens gateway-side and only the FUSED score crosses the wire, so rulesage cannot show them without a gateway change. The rank column below is the FUSED rank (position in the returned list), which is real.

token count per chunk: NOT DISCLOSED — chunk token counts are not reported on the ask path. The character counts below are of the bounded snippet/quote rulesage actually received — a real measurement of what we hold, never an estimate of the chunk.

what this block IS: the passages the ANSWERING read put in front of the answerer, in the order it read them — the other half of the two reads described above, and the one that decides what the answer could possibly say. Each row names the book it came from and where in that book it sits, what it scored when the search arms were fused, which arm carried it there, and whether the re-ranker chose it or a floor guaranteed it a slot. A row here that no passage-search row names is EXPECTED: a far wider pool, re-ranked, with floors the passage search never applies.

candidate pool: the answering read scored 19 passages, out of a ceiling of 80 set gateway-side. Both figures are reported by the gateway for THIS ask — measurements of what actually happened, not constants read out of anyone's source and printed here on faith.

floors armed for this ask: the base rulebook — armed · surviving errata corrections — not armed · one slot per book on a multi-book read — not armed. Every floor is stated on every ask, armed or not, so a floor that did not apply here is never mistaken for one this app does not know about.

arms fused for this ask: vector + full-text + the doc-priority boost arm. Stated separately from the rows because an arm that ran and carried nothing is a different fact from an arm that never ran.

watchdog
first-token watchdog: 30s per arming window (rulesage.table.first-token-watchdog-seconds), re-armed once by the passages frame — so the worst case before a reader falls back to polling is 60s. Whether it actually fired is a BROWSER-side decision that never reaches the server, so it is not recorded here. The stream path above is the server's half of that story: whether a delta was emitted at all.
num_ctx · think posture
both are the CHILD's settings, not rulesage's, and no ask reply carries them — an answer never states which context window or think posture produced it. The live-seat line above reads them from the running child instead, where the gateway can answer for itself; it describes the child NOW, not this ask.

this game registers NO errata cards (edition 968), so "no registered errata card matched" above could never have matched one

Errata scope: the gate above matched this ruling's own edition only. When an ask also reads an expansion, that expansion's own registered errata cards stay outside the match — a stated phase-1 limitation, not a failed lookup.
